Are you interested in training to become a secondary school teacher?

Our school is part of a growing number of schools leading the way for more school-led teacher training. This is really important to us because it means we can choose the very best talent and develop them into teachers. Being able to choose who we train as teachers helps us to deliver the best outcomes for the students at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School.

We are looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, have a passion for teaching and want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential. We can also provide you with support and guidance on your application form and offer you school experience if you just want a taster of what teaching would be like.

Applications are made through DfE (https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-teacher-training) and the school works in partnership with an ITT provider.  Since 2015, we have been working with BEC Teacher Training.

Having had the opportunity to complete a SCITT course at BUCHS has been an invaluable experience for me. The course combined academic study at Masters level (at university,) with practical experience and training within the school. The balance between studying on the one hand, and day-to-day experience on the other, has been a great way to progress and improve my pedagogical practice as a teacher. Everyone has been very supportive, and colleagues understand how challenging the training year can be. Of course, the pupils at BUCHS are a credit to the school, and this was helpful when devising creative and challenging lessons. I would definitely recommend a SCITT course to anyone wishing to enter into a career in teaching. Mr Young

Having been an Ursuline student, I knew the expectations of the school and the high standard of teaching that takes place. Therefore, I was keen to do my training at the school and learn how to be a successful teacher. After observing and teaching numerous lessons, I felt comfortable leading a class. I would like to thank the Ursuline for their support during my PGCE year and giving me the skills to prove I can deliver outstanding lessons, which relate to the teaching standards required. I have been involved with extracurricular projects at the Brentwood Theatre and my knowledge of GCSE and A-LEVEL specifications has been valuable.

This experience has given me the confidence when attending my second school placement, where I have been fortunate enough to be offered my first full teaching position. Thank you to the Performing Arts Department for giving me this opportunity. Miss McCarthy

 

Completing my SCITT course at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School has been an experience that I would recommend to anyone interested in completing their initial teacher training. The course is filled with superb training sessions, many challenges, achievements and exceptional support from staff members to help guide you through the training year. The students at BUCHS are such a joy to teach. Their maturity, behaviour and respect for their Catholic community allows for a trainee teacher to learn and develop themselves as a confident classroom teacher. The well-balanced combination of theoretical study, training, practical application, reflection and feedback is both conducive for learning and an exciting way to develop pedagogical practice. Although highly challenging, with the support from the mentors at BUCHS, I would highly recommend the SCITT pathway into teaching; it has been an extremely rewarding experience. Mr Cecil.
